Ingemo Bonnier

Scandinavian operator for Philip Morris International dealing with Smoking and Health issues in the EEMA Region (Scandinavia, Switzerland, Middle East and North Africa). He was part of the team operated by J Bernard "Bernie' Robinson.

PRELIMINARY MATERIAL ONLY

1991 Sep: The Corporate Affairs (CA) division of Philip Morris International's East European/Middle East/Africa (EEMA) division is concerned about the anticipated EPA announcement that passive smoke is a carcinogen. They have "formed a special EPA crack team at the HQ [Headquarters] in Lausanne."

The team will focus on both preemptive and pro-active efforts in its "high-risk markets" Switzerland and Austria — both "preemption prior to the EPA publication date," and "counter-measures during the 72 hour before and after...."

Strategies include
    • Cast a shadow of doubt in media's mind
    • Redirect focus of debate
    • Move decision-makers towards viable/practical solutions (ventilation standards)
    • Follow up: Setting standards on workplace environment; building codes for restaurants; World SmokePeace Day (Accommodation program)

PMI is flying key personel from each country to New York for media training. Bonnier is the designated PMI spokesperson for Scandinavian countries within the EEMA region.
