A New York University Medical Center doctor who wanted to supervise 'literature research' into Environmental Tobacco Smoke, but wanted the CIAR to be used as the laundry channel to maintain a fictional separation from the tobacco companies.

1987 Sep 1: He had a meeting with Oldaker of RJ Reynolds Tobacco about a proposal for literature research and report on ETS. He wanted to be funded directly - not through NYU's administration, and requested Center for Indoor Air Research (CIAR) funding (Not RJR)
"Dr Van Duuren requested that all correspondence be made with the CIAR, with no evidence of involvement by the tobacco companies."
He later decided to have funding by NYU
